Molly Varga ACP

Molly started her Emergency Medical Services (EMS) career in 2006 and quickly began to realize the importance of psychological safety in the workplace. EMS profession is known to be at high risk for Occupational Stress Injuries (OSI) and mental illness such as Post Traumatic Stress Injuries (PTSI). She was monumental in influencing high level leadership in investing in the psychological safety of their organization. Molly was voted by her peers to sit on the Mental Health Task Force Team developing recommendations for the employer, as well as the Provincial Psychological Health and Safety Committee that rolled out The Working Minds Provincially to more then 6000 staff. After building a sustainable Peer Support Team she was asked to sit on the Provincial Peer Support Project for AHS. In 2019 to 2021 she sat as an EMS representative on the City of Edmonton's Living Hope Committee-A Community Plan for Suicide Prevention. She co-developed and managed the Edmonton Zone Peer Support program from 2015-2022 that services over 1500 employees with over 900 member contacts in 2020. Incorporating proactive wellness programs into the workplace creating 360 degree support model, with little to no costs to the employer. She is a facilitator in The Working Mind -First Responder (TWM-FR), AHS Suicide Prevention, Education, Awareness and Knowledge training (AHS SPEAKS), and HeartMath.

Chris brings experience in project management and leadership. With over 25 years in Emergency Services and Fire Departments he brings extensive knowledge and expertise to the team. His unique lens allows the team to plan, execute, and monitor/control project deliverables. Chris also provides insight into understanding Sanctuary Trauma, the WCB process, and what it takes to make a psychologically safe workplace.

Mark Carson ACP
Consultant & Training Facilitator

Mark started his career in Emergency Medical Services in 1982 and has spent numerous years within his career as an active peer support member and in many diverse roles within EMS. He witnessed firsthand the impact an effective peer team can have on an entire organization. His knowledge and expertise in the profession brings richness to his work. Mark sat as a member on the Alberta Health Services Emergency Medical Services Mental Health Task force Team which was responsible for researching best practices for psychologically safe workplaces, and as an Edmonton Zone Peer Support Coordinator on the AHS Provincial Peer Support project. He is currently an instructor in The Working Mind- First Responder (TWM-FR), AHS SPEAKS, and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM).
